In short: Levelwell has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Everything you enter stays on your device. We never see it, sell it or share it.
What the app stores
When you use Levelwell, the app saves the information you enter in your device's browser storage, on your device only:
- Profile details you choose to give: name, age, sex, height, weight, activity level and goals.
- Your logs: meals and nutrition, water intake, fasting sessions, workouts, trained muscle groups, steps, sleep (bedtimes, wake-up times, how you felt and any notes you tag), resting heart rate and weigh-ins.
- App settings, such as units and calorie goals.
- If you use the Clean tab: what you are tracking, your clean dates, slips, cravings, check-ins and reasons.
- Your levels, XP, badges and streaks, which the app works out from your logs, plus the nickname and avatar you pick and the friend codes you add.
This data is not sent to us or to anyone else. We have no server that receives it.
Health Connect (Android app)
If you choose to connect Android Health Connect, Levelwell asks for permission to read seven types of data that your phone, watch, ring, smart scale or fitness tracker has saved there:
- Steps
- Weight
- Body fat
- Active calories burned
- Heart rate
- Resting heart rate
- Sleep (when you slept and, if your device records them, sleep stages)
Levelwell uses this data only to show your steps, activity, sleep, heart rate, weight and their trends and history in the app, to work out your daily readiness and sleep scores, and, if you leave the setting on, to update the weight in your profile. It never writes to Health Connect, never sends this data off your device, never shares or sells it, and never uses it for advertising. Copies the app keeps are stored on your device with the rest of your Levelwell data.
You can stop access at any time in Health Connect (Body → Today → Devices & Health Connect → Manage access, or your phone's Health Connect settings). Levelwell's use of information received from Health Connect follows Google Play's Android health permissions requirements.
Health Connect data is kept only as long as you keep Levelwell data on your device; it is erased when you use Delete All My Data or uninstall the app. It is protected by Android's app storage, which other apps cannot read, and because Levelwell has no servers, it is never stored anywhere else.
Camera and photos
If you use the barcode scanner, Levelwell uses your camera to read the barcode on your device. Camera images are not saved or uploaded. You can deny camera access and still use the rest of the app.
Levels and friends leaderboard
The friends leaderboard works without accounts or a server. When you tap Share my code, Levelwell creates a code containing only your nickname, avatar, level, total and weekly XP, streak, badge count and a random player ID, and hands it to the sharing app you choose. Nothing is sent unless you share it yourself, and anyone you send it to can see those details. Codes your friends send you are stored on your device only. Please don't use your real name as your nickname.
Clean tab
The Clean tab can hold sensitive information about substance use or sexual behavior. It is stored only on your device, is never included in leaderboard codes, and is never sent anywhere. You can lock the tab with a PIN, and discreet mode keeps notifications, widgets and the Home screen from naming what you track. A PIN keeps casual eyes out but is not encryption, so also protect your phone with a screen lock.
Notifications and widgets
Reminders are scheduled by the app on your device. There is no push server, and nothing is sent to us to deliver them. Home-screen widgets show stats from the app's own storage on your device. You can turn reminders off in Profile or in your phone's settings, and remove widgets at any time.
Food barcode lookups
When you scan a barcode, Levelwell sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free public food database, to look up the product's nutrition. No personal information is sent with it. Open Food Facts' own privacy policy applies to that request.
Hosting
Levelwell is delivered from a web host. Like any website, the host may keep standard technical logs, such as IP address, device type and time of request, to run and secure the service. These logs are not linked to anything you enter in the app.
Health information
Levelwell gives general fitness and nutrition estimates. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Talk to a doctor before starting a fasting, diet or exercise plan.
Children
Levelwell is intended for adults 18 and over and is not directed at children.
Deleting your data
Your data lives only on your device, so you are in control of it:
- In the app, go to Profile → Delete All My Data to erase everything immediately.
- Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage in your device settings also removes it.
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
